The best destinations for a spiritual retreat
Sometimes the hustle and bustle of the busy tourist spots can leave you feeling a little worn out. If you are in search of a more relaxing and spiritual type of retreat there are lots of destinations you can try. While many of us may have tried to engage with our spirituality through consulting psychics, or even a tarot cards reader, immersing yourself in a new culture can offer an additional dimension to your search for spiritual fulfilment. Here are a few examples of some of the most spiritual destinations you can try.
1. Jerusalem, Israel
If you are seeking a religious travel destination, then the city of Jerusalem is definitely worth a visit. While you’re there you should check out the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem’s old city. It’s one of the world’s most sacred religious sites and holds significance for Judaism, Christianity and Islam.
2. India
India is an incredible country to visit in terms of culture and diversity. There’s an abundance of spiritual sites such as The Temple of God and the Golden Temple in Amritsar which attract visitors from all over the globe. Or, if you prefer, you can simply relax on one of India’s beautiful beaches.
3. Tibet
Take a visit to one of the Buddhist temples or lose yourself in the breathtaking mountains. If you decide to visit a temple, be sure to take into consideration the customs which are expected. For example, do not touch the Buddhist statues and if you get the chance to meet a Buddhist monk, the typical greeting is to bow your head. If you feel like exploring the mountains, Mount Kailash is one of the least visited pilgrim sites and one of the most remote but is also one of the most sacred sites for a variety of religions. Whilst reaching the summit is difficult, the views and the sense of tranquillity are second to none.
It’s all too easy to be overcome by the hectic nature of the main tourist spots so why not take some time out to visit some of the more peaceful destinations that the world has to offer.
